We'd like to thank PSI Seminars for their commitment to supporting local communities. This year the local chapter of Personal Success Institute (PSI) PLD graduates selected The Ducere Group as it's sponsoring organization for their gifting day. They raised $4,000 in just two hours to fund our program Camp One Small Change. Thanks to their generous donation, we were able to provide scholarships to more than 30 campers to attend our week long summer camp. Kudos to Kristine Manning, Rob Leahy, Vic Johnson, and the entire PLD team for all your efforts to support our children.
The Ducere Group participated in A Victorian Country Christmas Festival which ran from December 4-8, 2013 at the Puyallup Fair Grounds. At the festival, we shared information about our organization, gave children a sample of a blended learning curriculum that we'd like to implement, received more than 800 signatures from community members who support public charter schools for non-traditional learners, and enlisted local members in our cause- some of which wish to enroll their children in our emerging public charter school, The Village Academy. We also partnered with an emerging non-profit organization that hopes to apply in July of 2014 to open Tacoma Preparatory Academy, a high school focused on culture diversity. It was a wonderful event! We owe a big thank you to A Victorian Country Christmas Festival for their generous donation of the booth valued at over $1000 and a thank you to SpecialEducationAdvocacy.org who so kindly helped us staff the booth.
One Small Change Day Camp! 2013
This summer, The Ducere Group sponsored it's first annual Day Camp for children ages 6-13 at the Portland Avenue Community Center (3513 E Portland Ave, Tacoma · (253) 591-5391 · Directions) in Tacoma.
This years theme "One Small Change"focused on empowering children with the skills necessary to make one small change in their liveswhich will have a lasting and meaningful impact on themselves, their families, their communities, their environment, and the world. The camp was filled with fun activities, arts and crafts, and entertainment all relevant to the theme. Children of all ability levels learned valuable survival skills in emergency preparedness and were able to create their very own first aid kits and 72-hour emergency preparedness kits. Health and fitness classes targeted building self esteem and the importance of anti-bullying. Our focus on teaching children to becoming global thinking citizens immersed them into a magical world of diversity in culture and abilities where everyone is loved and appreciated. At the end of the day, each child was able to select a free book to take home. Most importantly, everyone had a safe and super fun time!
Stay tuned for next year's camp! For more information, please contact Calyn Holdaway at 253-353-4230 or by clicking here.
